What is an Arm Lift?
Do you have excess skin and fat between your underarm and elbow? Does it look like a hammock? If so, then you should consider scheduling a free consultation with YOUnique Cosmetic Surgery to discuss either liposuction or an arm lift. Brachioplasty, the medical term for an arm lift, helps solve the problem when arm tissue begins to relax and sag, creating a droopy look.
What is the process of the procedure?
The procedure to fix this common issue involves an incision from the elbow to the armpit, and in some cases to the side of the chest. The doctor will then tighten the muscles in the upper arm and remove any excess fat and skin, eaving a shaped, contoured upper arm. Dr. Youssef recommends that you schedule a free consultation to discuss your options.

Am I a good candidate for an Arm Lift?
Ideal candidates vary. Dr. Youssef caters to normal weight patients who want a minor tightening, but most of his arm lift patients recently had major weight loss who have their weight under control and are in good health. If you have excess skin or fat in your upper arms chances are you will qualify to receive an arm lift.
What is the recovery process for this procedure?
Patients who undergo an arm lift are usually back to work after two to three weeks, but Dr. Youssef advises that you do not do any heavy lifting for two to six weeks. Upon the completion of your arm lift, you will be given either absorpable sutures or stitches (removed after a week or two), along with substantial dressing to be changed frequently, and also a compression garment to minimize swelling and discomfort.

What are the risks of getting an Arm Lift?
You may experience scarring, bleeding, fluid build-up, skin loss, blood clots, numbness, prolong swelling, persistent pain, deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications and damage to deeper structures such as nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and lungs.
If you smoke, stop smoking well before the surgery. Smoking slows down the healing process along with medications that increase the risk of bleeding such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, some vitamins/homeopathic regimens, Aspirin, all of which should be discontinued prior to arm lift surgery. |
