What is a Breast Reduction? What is the process of the Breast Reduction procedure? Instead of removing or disrupting any skin, three to five tiny incisions are made to the breast. These incisions make it possible for the doctor to insert a cannula (small metal tube) and suction out the excess fat. Instead of putting you under, Dr. Youssef will administer a large dose of diluted anaesthesia infused with adrenaline directly into the area where the fat will be removed. The area will then become numb and the blood vessels will become constricted; eliminating paid and excessive bleeding. This process is called tumescent liposuction. What should I expect after my Breast Reduction procedure? You will be given a supportive bra that must be worn twenty-four hours to minimize sagging and speed up healing. After the first day you should be walking at least thirty minutes a day in addition to your usual regimen. It’s not advised to go on a plane or a long car trip, but if you must, walk for at least five minutes every hour. Don’t shave or go swimming for a few days after your procedure (this can cause infection). Most patients are able to recover without taking pain medication, but it is okay if you must. Swelling and any bruising dissipate after a few weeks. |
