LATISSE® in Los Angeles
As we age, our body goes through many changes, including a decrease in the growth of our eyelashes. Like our hair, they tend to grow less, fall out more, and change pigment to the troublesome gray. There are many products on the market that claim to “fight the signs of aging lashes,” however, there is only one FDA-approved product, Latisse®—available in Los Angeles—that has proven to grow lashes longer, thicker, and darker.

What's YOUnique about Latisse®?
Latisse® is a prescription treatment available in the Los Angeles area for hypotrichosis—having inadequate or not enough lashes. It has been approved by the FDA to be used for increasing eyelash growth, making them longer, thicker, and darker. The Latisse®solution is applied to the base of the upper eyelashes once a day using the sterile application brushes that are provided. It is important to remember that fabulous lashes don’t happen overnight; you must be patient and continue to use the product consistently every day. You will start to see results around week 4, with full, dramatic results at week 16. It is important to know that if you discontinue Latisse®, your lashes will gradually return to their previous state.
Side effects with this medication are rare, but like all great things, there are some possible side effects that should be noted. The most common side effects are eye redness and/or itching sensation in the eyes. Less common side effects are skin darkening where it is applied, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids. These side effects occur in less than 4 percent of patients.
While using Latisse®, if you develop a new ocular condition, such as infection or trauma; have ocular surgery; or develop any ocular reactions such as conjunctivitis and eyelid reactions, please contact our office to speak with Dr. Youssef or our staff.
The active ingredient in Latisse®—bimatoprost—was discovered via the medication Lumigan, originally created by Allergan as a medicated eye drop to treat elevated intraocular pressure. However, patients using the Lumigan started growing longer, fuller, and darker lashes. This prompted Allergan to study bimatoprost, an active ingredient in the medication, which is now used in Latisse®. It is believed that Latisse® works by increasing the growth stage (anagen) of the hair cycle and that the bimatoprost increases the length of the anagen cycle, as well as the number of hairs in the growth cycle.
