(Man Boobs)

"Man boobs" can be a great source of embarrassment to men that develop this condition. This embarrassment can include feeling self-conscious at the beach or when wearing tight clothing such as T-shirts or feeling somehow less manly in general.

The consolations are that many men suffer with this, that it does not necessarily mean you are in any way abnormal and that we can now treat this condition very effectively. What causes "Man boobs"?

"Man boobs" can be caused by excess fat in the breast area or excessive glandular tissue behind the nipples. Excess fat is easily removed by liposuction. In this procedure a small incision 3 - 4mm wide is made and the excess fat is removed by suction. Because local anaesthetic is introduced as part of this general anaesthesia is not usually required.

Where excess glandular tissue is involved we undertake a well tried surgical procedure to remove this. A very small incision is made below the nipple and the excess tissue is removed. This can be done effectively under sedation and a local anaesthetic and general anaesthesia is not usually necessary.

Recovery

While you may feel discomfort for a few days this is usually well managed by simple pain medications such as Vicodin.

A compressive garment is usually worn for around 2 weeks and most patients find they can resume all their regular activity within 3-4 weeks.

Both these procedures are well proven and patients are usually very pleased with their results.
