Eye Lash Growth - Latisse
What is Latisse™ and what does it do?
Latisse (bimatoprost) a topical prescription product from Allergan (the makers of Botox and Juvederm), is the first and only scientifically proven product approved by the FDA to stimulate eyelashes to grow longer and thicker. It is prescription and therefore only available through physicians.
| Latisse™ (also bimatoprost and identical to Latisse) is a prescription eye drop for glaucoma which was discovered to also stimulate eyelash | ![]() |

While using Latisse your lashes will continue to grow without shedding as they normally would. They therefore will continue to grow longer until they have reached the desired length you choose. Maintenance treatments of 2-3 times per week will then maintain this desired length. Latisse can also stimulate eyebrow growth in some patients.
Instructions
Although the instructions included with Latisse differ, our experience shows better results when applied as follows: Apply in the morning, to clean, dry eyelids. To apply, put 1-2 drops into the cap of the bottle and dip an eyeliner brush into it. Brush should be wet but not drippy. Apply with brush along the base of the upper lashes, as you would eyeliner, once daily. Although Latisse instructions say not to apply to lower eyelids, lower lashes and eyebrows may also be treated. Try not to get the solution into your eyes or on the skin under your eyes. A little bit of solution occasionally in or on these areas is unlikely to cause side effects. If using a reusable brush, rinse well with water after each use and keep in a clean baggie. Makeup may be applied immediately afterwards.
What to Expect
Enhanced eyelash growth is typically seen within 4-8 weeks but may take up to 3 months in certain patients. Once lashes have grown to their desired length reduce applications to 2-3 times per week. This is necessary to maintain your results. If application is discontinued completely eyelashes will begin to shed normally and return to their pretreatment appearance in 2-4 weeks.

Safety
When used as directed on the eyelids for eyelash growth Latisse has been proven safe with no serious adverse events reported. Side effects were typically limited to temporary redness of the eye or eyelids. When used in the eye daily for glaucoma treatment, other side effects have been reported such as darkening of the skin under the eyes or the irises. See package insert for more details.
