Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and Santa Monica

Learn more about what makes a successful nose job

A nose is a person's most prominent facial feature. People who are self-conscious about their nose—who feel it's too large, too small, or otherwise ill-suited for their face—may elect to have rhinoplasty in the Beverly Hills area to refine their features or improve their profile. The surgery can help reduce or increase the size of your nose, as well as change the shape of the bridge, narrow the nostrils, or alter the angle between the nose and lip.

Our expert plastic surgeons are experienced in the art and science of rhinoplasty. We approach the surgery not as an isolated procedure, but as one part of an effort to reveal what makes you uniquely and beautifully you. A reshaped nose impacts much more than the nose itself. It can change the look of the entire face, so the choice of a qualified professional to handle the surgery is incredibly important.

Our surgeons perform rhinoplasty for Beverly Hills-area clients. Request a free consultation to learn more at (310) 434-0044.

What's YOUnique about rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty is more commonly referred to as a "nose job," but no matter what you call it, it's used to change the shape, size, or contour of the nose.

Rhinoplasty has helped hundreds of thousands of people across the globe achieve the look they desire and can be combined with other surgical procedures during a face lift, reconstructive facial surgery, or as part of a full cosmetic make over.

This procedure is also used to help improve medical conditions or irregularities that may impair breathing. Rhinoplasty allows for the shaving of bony humps from the bridge and the re-alignment of the nasal bones to help alleviate related discomfort. One of the most common conditions that can be corrected with this surgery is a deviated septum, which is a problem that can lead to breathing problems, chronic stuffiness, post-nasal drip, and snoring. Rhinoplasty surgery is also used to correct trauma and birth defects.

What specifically can a rhinoplasty address?

A common perception of rhinoplasty is that it reduces the size of an overly large nose. While that may be true in many cases, it is not the only alteration possible. In fact, that understanding is an oversimplification of a very complex and involved aesthetic process, since the nose is made up of many parts that interact with each other to create distinct lines and angles.

The main exterior components of a nose are the bridge, which begins between the eyes; the dorsum, which runs downward from the bridge to the tip of the nose; the tip itself; the small strip of tissue that runs from the tip to just above the upper lip, known as the columella; and the nostrils, bordered by cartilage known as ala.

A nose job can:

  • widen or narrow the nasal bridge
  • create a level dorsum with no humps or depressions
  • alter the nasal tipís size, shape, or angle
  • change the shape or size of the nostrils
  • create an overall more symmetrical nose

Our surgeons' primary goal is to give patients the nose that best suits their face via rhinoplasty, shaping it so it balances with the rest of their facial features.

A nasal tip, for instance, may be too bulbous and need to be reduced. Or it could hook downward or point upward, either of which can be corrected. A harsh angle where the nose meets the forehead or the dorsum meets the tip can be softened.

What does a rhinoplasty involve?

There are several different methods and techniques your surgeon can use during your surgery. The length of the surgery depends on which methods he decides to use to achieve your desired results. Typically, though, a rhinoplasty is a quick procedure, only lasting one to two hours.

There are two approaches for rhinoplasty: open and closed. Our surgeons will decide which method will best suit your particular needs after meeting with you, discussing your options, and assessing your situation.

The closed method works from inside the nostrils, keeping any incisions internal. This method avoids resulting external marks or scars, but also offers limits the surgeon's access to the structures and tissues. If the desired changes are limited in scope, this might be the ideal option.

The open method involves making an incision across the strip of tissue that separates your nostrils, known as the columella, and is more commonly used for rhinoplasty surgery because it gives the surgeon more room to work. Once the incision is made, the skin can be peeled back to reveal the bone, cartilage, and tissue to be reshaped. After the surgery is complete, the skin will be draped again over the new contours, and the incision will be closed. Our surgeons use advanced techniques to make any resulting marks as insignificant and unobtrusive as possible.

With either method, a splint will be put on your nose once your rhinoplasty surgery is done to help support the new shape.

What risks are involved in a rhinoplasty?

As with any major surgery, there are risks and side effects associated with rhinoplasty. It is common to experience moderate pain for the first few days. Side effects are usually mild and donít last long. If you experience recurring nosebleeds, severe pain when breathing through your nose, numbness in and around your nose, or signs of infection, contact your doctor.

What can I expect after my rhinoplasty?

Your road to recovery begins almost immediately after your rhinoplasty in Los Angeles. A small splint will be placed on your nose to protect it and to keep it stable for at least five to eight days. Nasal packing may be used to help reduce swelling and bleeding. This packing is placed inside your nose during surgery and removed the morning afterward. It's not uncommon to experience moderate discomfort for the first 48 hours after your rhinoplasty. You may also feel very stuffed up after your surgery. You can take a decongestant to help you breathe easy.

There will be some bruising and swelling in the days and weeks after your nose surgery. You may even develop bruises under both eyes. Cold compresses can be applied to ease swelling and promote healing. You must sleep on your back for a few weeks following a rhinoplasty to avoid placing any pressure on your nose. Many patients report returning to work within 10 days after their surgery. Most of the swelling should heal up within two weeks, but it can take up to a year to heal completely as everything settles into its new, permanent place.

Can I see other patients' rhinoplasty results?

Our plastic and cosmetic surgeons have a large gallery of before-and-after photos depicting people who chose Younique Cosmetic Surgery for their rhinoplasty needs, so patients considering a nose job of their own can see the results of his skill, expertise, and aesthetic eye. Remember, though, that no two people have the same nose, so he cannot "duplicate" someone else's look. Even two noses of nearly identical size and shape will look different on their respective unique faces because of their relationship with the surrounding features.

Photos of other patients, and even pictures of models and celebrities, can give our plastic surgeons an idea of the look you are seeking, but your surgery and your results will be specific to you, tailored to give you the best look possible for your own, beautiful face.

What does a rhinoplasty cost?

Since each rhinoplasty surgery is unique, it is best to discuss cost during your consultation with your surgeon, who can assess your face, understand your goals, and develop a plan from there.

Note that while insurance does not cover cosmetic surgery, a rhinoplasty performed for functional reasons may be covered due to the medical necessity of being able to breathe clearly. If this is the case for you, discuss any and all details with your doctor and insurance prior to the surgery to ensure there are no surprises later.

Is there a nonsurgical option?

Nothing can duplicate the results of an actual rhinoplasty, since the surgery makes permanent changes to nasal structures. Patients looking for a cosmetic change to their nose without surgery do have other options, however. A nonsurgical rhinoplasty at the Beverly Hills area's Younique Cosmetic Surgery makes use of dermal fillers to temporarily alter the appearance of the nose by evening out depressions, changing key angles, and creating more symmetry. This is called a nonsurgical rhinoplasty.

This injectables-driven approach is ideal for patients who want minor to moderate alterations, but who want to avoid incisions and sutures. Since dermal fillers are gradually absorbed, the results will fade over time. Regular maintenance visits will be necessary to preserve the desired look.

What can I choose to complement a rhinoplasty?

While a rhinoplasty at Beverly Hills' Younique Cosmetic Surgery can make a big aesthetic difference, it is not the only procedure available to patients who want to cosmetically alter their face. Other features that can be surgically modified include the cheeks and chin, which can be augmented with implants to appear more defined and prominent.

As mentioned above, a rhinoplasty can add to the visual results of a facelift, and other facial surgeries are also available, including a brow lift, blepharoplasty, and neck lift.

All of these surgeries effectively impact the shape and contours of the face. Patients who want to address the tone, clarity, or coloring of their nose or other facial features can choose from a variety of aesthetic treatments, including BOTOX® and dermal fillers to combat wrinkles and microdermabrasion or chemical peels to improve tone and texture.

Facial veins can distract from an otherwise clear face, especially on the nose, where fine, dark-colored lines that resemble spider webs can develop. Younique Cosmetic Surgery offers facial vein removal, using lasers to safely and efficiently collapse the unwanted blood vessels.

At the hands of our expert surgeons, these surgeries and treatments can be combined in various ways to give each patient a customized look that creates a sense of rejuvenation, as opposed to looking "done."
