What are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are swollen, twisted and often bulging blue/green veins that can sometime be very painful and have a tortuous pattern. Normal veins have valves in them that pump blood towards the heart. Varicose veins occur when the valves in the vein stop working properly, forcing the blood backwards, causing the blood to pool and enlarges the vein. The backward flow, called reflux, is what causes varicose veins.
What happens if I don’t get treatment?
If left untreated, you may feel such symptoms as swelling of the ankles, heaviness, pain in the legs, aching, skin discoloration at the ankles, and skin ulcers at the ankles. Over time, the symptoms will get worse and your varicose veins will get larger and rope like.
What is the process for treating Varicose veins?
Dr. Youssef specializes in diagnosing and treating vein related disorders. As a board certified Phlebologist, he is able to locate the valve failures using an ultrasound technique and determine the valve with the highest point of failure. Once he has identified the source of the problem, Dr. Youssef can suggest the therapy that will be most effective for you with the lowest risk of side effects.
Some of the treatments that Dr. Youssef offers through YOUnique Cosmetic Surgery include:
Foam Sclerotherapy (fluid injection), Ambulatory Phlebectomy (surgical removal), Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (fluid injection monitored on ultrasound monitor), and Endovenus Laser Treatment (ultrasound monitored laser treatment).
What is the recovery process for this procedure?
Recovery time differs for each individual, but with varicose veins risks are very minimal. To be an ideal candidate, you just have to be in good overall health. You may experience some pain and discomfort after your procedure, so limit your physical activity and expect to take some time off from work.
