Breast Augmentation (Breast Implants) in Santa Monica
What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast Augmentation is when the breast size, shape, symmetry or contour is enhanced to some degree. Most commonly called, a “Boob Job,” breast augmentation is an out-patient procedure that usually lasts up to two hours. Afterwards, you will be monitored for a few hours in one of our recovery rooms and after a few more hours, you will be sent home.
What is the process of the Breast Augmentation procedure?
Dr. Youssef is a board certified cosmetic surgeon and has performed breast enhancement on hundreds of patients. Scarring is a major concern for most patients, which is why YOUnique Cosmetic Surgery offers several discreet locations for the incision to be made. These locations include the armpit (transaxillary), around the nipple (periareolar), under the breast (inframammary), or in the belly button (TUBA).
Once the incision has been made, the doctor will place an implant on top of or under the muscle. This depends on your body type and skin elasticity. Those who have really tight skin and a small chest wall will be recommended to have their implant place under the muscle. Whereas those with looser skin and larger chest wall should consider having the implant placed above the muscle.
Implant Placement Options
What are my options for Breast Augmentation?
There are several types of implants used in breast augmentation, and Dr. Youssef will help you choose which is best to use to improve the look of your breasts. These different types of implants include Silicon, Saline, or your own fat. The size of an implant is measured in cubic centimeters (cc’s); the higher the number of cc’s the larger the implant.
Patients who have loose or droopy breasts and wish to have rounder breasts with more projection would want to consider a high profile implant, whereas patients who have tight skin and smaller breasts and want a more natural look would want to get a moderate profile implant.
There is also a dual-plane approach that Dr. Youssef may perform, where the top half of the muscle is covered by the implant and the bottom half is covered by the breast tissue.
