Consultation
Our process begins with a one-on-one consultation led by one of our Younique providers. We review your concerns, the purpose of your biopsy, and your medical history. If your provider determines a skin biopsy in Santa Monica is the next best step, we will schedule your session as soon as possible.

Procedure
Your Younique provider begins by cleansing the treatment area. After choosing the best technique for your biopsy, your provider will administer a local anesthetic, such as a topical cream or injection, to the area. When the anesthetic takes effect, your provider will take a tissue sample for the lab to process. Depending on the biopsy technique your provider uses, you may require stitches.

Recovery
Once we send your biopsy sample to a qualified medical lab for testing, results may take up to 2 weeks to come back.
If you received self-dissolving stitches for your biopsy, they should start dissolve and fall out within 1 to 2 weeks. We can also set a follow-up to remove the stitches manually, if needed.
Once we receive your lab results, your Younique provider can get started on a treatment plan. If the results call for more serious action, we recommend consulting with your medical provider on your next steps.

Are there any side effects from having a skin biopsy?
A skin biopsy is a brief outpatient service at Younique Surgery Center and Med Spa. We cleanse and disinfect the treatment area to protect against infection. In rare cases, a patient may experience:
- Slight scarring
- Allergic reaction to the anesthetic
- Bruising
- Bleeding at the biopsy site
- Infection
Most skin biopsies in Santa Monica are uneventful.
Is there any aftercare for my skin biopsy?
In most cases, a skin biopsy heals in about 7 to 10 days. In some cases, such as locations prone to friction, biopsy sites may take longer to heal. While healing from your biopsy, avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, or any place where the wound could be fully submerged in water. Do not shower for the first 24 hours following a biopsy.
