Benefits of Skin Biopsies in Los Angeles
Identification
Skin biopsies help us uncover underlying skin issues and concerns.
Diagnosis
Results of a skin analysis can help us provide effective treatment solutions.
Peace of Mind
Reach an understanding and focus on treatment rather than worrying over your skin.
Consultation
Our process begins with a one-on-one consultation with one of our trainer Younique providers. We review your needs and concerns, the purpose of your biopsy, and your medical history. If your provider determines a skin biopsy in Santa Monica is the next best step, we will schedule your session as soon as possible.

Procedure
To begin your skin biopsy, your Younique provider cleanses and disinfects the treatment area. After choosing the proper technique for your particular biopsy, your provider will administer a local anesthetic to the area. We use a topical cream or an injection. When the anesthetic begins taking effect, your provider will remove the appropriate amount of tissue for the lab to process. Depending on the biopsy technique your provider uses, you may require stitches.

Recovery
We send your biopsy sample to a qualified medical lab for testing. The results can take up to 2 weeks to come back.
If you received stitches for your biopsy, the self-dissolving stitch should start dissolving and fall out in 1 to 2 weeks. We can also set your next appointment as a follow-up to remove the stitches.
Once we receive your lab results, your Younique provider can share treatment options and prescribe the proper medicine. If the results call for more serious action, we recommend you consult with your medical provider.

Are there any side effects from having a skin biopsy?
A skin biopsy is an outpatient service at Younique Surgery Center and Med Spa. Our process takes place in a short amount of time. We cleanse and disinfect the treatment area to protect against infection. In rare cases, a patient may experience:
- Slight scarring
- Allergic reaction to the anesthetic
- Bruising
- Bleeding at the biopsy site
Most patient’s biopsy appointments are uneventful.
Is there any aftercare for my skin biopsy?
In most cases, a skin biopsy heals in about 7 to 10 days. In some cases, biopsy sites may take longer to heal, such as on the lower legs or in other locations prone to friction. While healing from your biopsy, avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, or any place where the wound could be fully submerged in water. You can shower starting the day following your biopsy.
