Benefits of Breast Implant Removal in Los Angeles
Restoration
A breast implant removal can help return your breasts to a more natural size and/or shape.
Wellness
It’s rare, but when “breast implant illness” happens, breast implant removal may help improve the condition.
Improvement
In the cases of implant rupture or hardening of breast tissue (capsular contracture), removing the implant can alleviate many symptoms.
Consultation
It starts with a personal consultation with your trained and licensed Younique provider. During this one-on-one, they’ll discuss your current implants, your goals for treatment, and your medical history. If your provider determines removing your breast implant is the best option, you will be scheduled for an MRI for your breasts. After receiving the results, your surgery can be scheduled, and you’ll be filled in on the pre-surgery preparation details.
Procedure
You will receive anesthetic via IV sedation or general. Then, your Younique surgeon will make an incision around your areola or under the lower fold of your breast, then remove the implants and any scar tissue. This would also be the time you could have new implants inserted, or a small breast lift, depending on your goals. The incisions will be closed, and the healing will begin.
Recovery
Much like after your original breast augmentation, recovery after implant removal or revision will take time. For the first 1 to 2 weeks after surgery, you will need to rest easy and avoid strenuous activities, lifting over 5 pounds of weight, and driving.
You will also need to break out that special support bra or a compression garment to reduce swelling. Your surgeon may also insert drains beneath your skin to drain excess fluid or blood. They’re usually removed after a few days.
What happens to my breasts after the implant is removed?
Should the best course of action be to remove the implant and not replace it, the size of the original implant determines much of the results. Patients have had their breasts sag, droop, or appear slightly misshapen after removing their implants. That’s one of the reasons we recommend a breast lift be done after the implants are removed, so that excess skin can also be removed and your breasts re-shaped and positioned for a positive post-healing aesthetic.
How do I prepare for a breast implant removal procedure?
Before we can remove a breast implant, you will have an MRI done on your breasts to understand exactly what’s happening in and around the implant. Then, for two weeks prior to your surgery, you’ll need to:
- Stop taking Aspirin/Tylenol/ibuprofen
- Stop taking anti-inflammatories
- Stop taking herbs that thin blood
- Stop smoking
