Benefits of Laser Hair Removal in Santa Monica
Areas of Focus
Laser hair removal is effective on most areas of your body, with the exception of the skin around your eyes and areas with tattoos. Rid your arms, face, back, legs, or other areas of unwanted hair, all with minimal upkeep.
A Swift Method
Think of all the time you might spend going to the store and getting razors, shaving cream, soothing lotion, and whatever else. With laser hair removal in Santa Monica, you can get all of that time back.
Say Goodbye to Shaving
After your series of treatments, you can enjoy long-lasting results for months—if not years—to come. Any hair that does grow back will be lighter and finer in texture, potentially going unnoticed altogether.
Consultation
Start your aesthetic care journey by getting a personalized consultation with an experienced Younique provider.
During this meeting, you will have the opportunity to speak about your medical history, any concerns you may have, and your specific goals for laser hair removal in Santa Monica. Think of this step as the foundation of your treatment plan.
If laser hair removal aligns with your treatment goals and you choose to move forward, our staff will help get you scheduled. We will also provide you with any pre-care guidelines you may need.
Procedure
Your laser hair removal process begins with your Younique provider cleansing the treatment area. After this step, your provider will adjust the laser hair removal device to a specific wavelength that heats the pigment in your hair follicles—destroying the source of growth. Once treatment with the laser begins, you may experience slight discomfort, with a sensation similar to that of a snapping hair tie or rubber band.
Recovery
The recovery process is fairly straightforward. In the first 3 days after treatment, you may experience redness, bumps, or slight swelling of the treatment area. To manage these symptoms, you may use topical creams such as calamine, aloe vera, or hydrocortisone. Wearing SPF 30 or higher is crucial when participating in laser hair removal in Santa Monica.
You may notice a 30% reduction in hair growth 14 days after your appointment. During those 14 days, you may experience hair falling or shedding from the treatment area—this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. If you do have questions or concerns, feel free to give us a call!
What is Brazilian laser hair removal?
This treatment is similar to a Brazilian bikini wax. If you decide on this type of laser hair removal, your Younique provider will remove hair from your bikini area. Your comfort is our number 1 priority when you receive treatment at Younique, and we understand this area can be particularly sensitive.
What results should I expect after laser hair removal treatment?
Your treated area may start to “shed” excess hair after treatment. This is a normal part of your body’s healing process after getting laser hair removal in Santa Monica. That hair will slowly fall out over the course of 7 to 14 days—resulting in smoother skin and much less hair (almost 30% less).
We recommend completing a full treatment series to achieve the best results. With multiple sessions, the laser can target more hair follicles as they move through the growth cycle, leading to more effective hair reduction overall.
Laser hair removal has shown to be more effective when treating darker hair—it may not be ideal for patients with much lighter hair colors. You can talk to your provider about supplemental options for hair removal if need be.
How should I prepare for my laser hair removal session?
At your consultation, our staff will help you prepare for treatment by providing professional recommendations. This will include a list of guidelines to follow in the days leading up to your laser hair removal:
- Stop any waxing, tweezing, and chemical epilation 3 weeks prior to treatment.
- The area to be treated must be clean shaven. If you’re unshaven, we will need to reschedule your treatment.
- Avoid UV exposure 7 days prior to your treatment.
- If you have a recent sunburn or tan, you must wait at least 2 weeks before we can treat you. This is to avoid any additional damage to your skin.
- Avoid sunless tanning products 7 days prior to your treatment.
- To remove any residual color, we recommend exfoliating the area.
- Avoid chemical peels and other laser procedures in the treatment area for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after your laser treatment.
- Do not use alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy products (AHA/BHA), hydroquinone, retinols/retinoids, Tazorac, and Differin for 7 days before treatment.
- If you are prone to cold sores, we highly recommend taking an antiviral medication (such as Valtrex) prior to your treatment. Patients who are experiencing active cold sores will need to be rescheduled.
- Discontinue Accutane use for 6 months prior to laser hair removal treatments.
- If you have Botox or dermal fillers in the treatment area, wait 14 days both before and after injection to receive treatments.
What do I need to do after treatment?
There are several things you can do after your treatment sessions to help keep your skin healthy and reduce discomfort throughout the healing process. Recommendations include:
- Do not use tanning beds or be exposed to extended UV exposure for 7 days post-treatment.
- If blisters occur, do not puncture. If the skin is broken, apply an antibiotic ointment until healed.
- Over-the-counter medication, such as Tylenol, is recommended for post-treatment discomfort.
- If you’re feeling heat in the treated area, you may also apply restorative gel, cool towels, ice packs, or aloe vera to alleviate discomfort.
- Do not use seat warmers immediately after treatment.
- Avoiding any additional laser treatments or chemical procedures on the treated area for at least 2 weeks post-treatment or until healing has occurred.
- Using a broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 or higher is critical when receiving laser treatments and is recommended for ongoing maintenance.
- Exfoliate treated areas to minimize the risk of ingrown hairs.
