Benefits of Chemical Peels
Solution for Acne
Chemical peels provide many benefits for your skin. They can reduce inflammation, kill bacteria, and lessen scarring cause by acne.
Refreshed Texture
By peeling away the outermost layers of skin, a chemical peel can improve texture and tone, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.
Even Tone
Discoloration and an uneven skin tone will be things of the past after getting a chemical peel, letting you enjoy a refreshed complexion.
Consultation
Prior to treatment, we’ll sit down with you for a personalized consultation. Here, you’ll tell us more about your medical history, your specific skin concerns, and your goals for treatment.
We’ll use this information to guide your treatment plan. Should chemical peels in Santa Monica be right for you, we can get you scheduled for an appointment and provide further information to help you prepare.
Procedure
Our chemical peel treatments start with your provider cleansing the treatment area. After this, they will apply the chemical peel solution that best aligns with your treatment goals.
During this 15-minute appointment, some patients have reported a slight burning sensation. They have compared this feeling to that of a sunburn—but only lasting for a couple minutes at most. After your provider removes the chemical peel, your skin may feel fresher and tighter, but some recovery time may be necessary to allow your skin to flake and heal.
Recovery
Recovery time varies based on the selected chemical peel treatment. While this procedure can improve skin texture and tone, we do have some guidelines that are important to follow for the best recovery:
- Avoid direct sunlight for at least 7 days.
- If you must be in the sun, use SPF 30 sunscreen or higher.
- Do not scrub the treated area. Use gentle, hydrating cleansers to keep the area clean.
- Use moisturizer in the treated area for 7 to 14 days after your chemical peel.

Am I a good candidate for chemical peels?
At your initial consultation, your provider will examine the desired treatment area and let you know if you’re a suitable candidate for chemical peels in Santa Monica. Given that chemical peels are a flexible, customizable treatment, they’re able to suit a wide variety of skin types and concerns.
However, chemical peels are more effective for patients with fair skin. Patients with darker skin may also benefit from receiving a chemical peel, but it may not be as effective for treating discoloration. Furthermore, patients with advanced wrinkles, sagging skin, or facial “bulges” may have better success with a different treatment.
How do chemical peels help improve my overall health?
Chemical peels in Santa Monica don’t just improve your skin’s appearance, but its health as well. With safe ingredients, they clear excess oil and sebum. They also decrease the size of your pores, which can prevent acne and diminish the appearance of acne-related scarring. Plus, a chemical peel can address sun spots and other forms of discoloration, leading to a more youthful glow naturally.
What should I know before my appointment?
Before coming in for your chemical peel, we recommend the following:
- Discontinue the use of retinoids 2 to 4 weeks before treatment.
- Arrive at your appointment with skin that’s clean and free of makeup or lotions.
- Do not undergo other exfoliating or harsh skincare treatments for 2 to 4 weeks prior to your treatment.
- Avoid direct sunlight in the 2 to 4 weeks leading to your appointment.
It’s also important that you be open with your provider during your consultation. You should let them know about any and all medications you take, along with telling your provider if you have a history of cold sores. During your consultation, we’ll provide any additional preparation information that you may need.
